Today on the blog we're rounding up some of our most commonly asked questions. Read on to learn more about KC Needlepoint and how we can help you on your stitching journey!
Help! I'm new to needlepoint. Where do I start?
Yay! We're so glad that you're here. We have several beginner kits that contain everything you need to get you from start to finish on a project. Beginner kits include basic stitch instructions, threads, scissors, project bag, a 13 count canvas and a needle.

What's the difference between 13 and 18 count canvas?
The mesh size of your canvas refers to the number of intersections per linear inch. 18 count canvas will have 18 intersections per linear inch and 13 count canvas will have 13 intersections per inch. 13 count canvas has larger holes and is what we recommend for new stitchers as it will be easier to see where your needle goes as you stitch!
Does my canvas include threads?
Unless you have ordered a kit, needlepoint canvases do not automatically include threads. You can choose to have threads added when you check out by asking for your canvas to be "kitted" in the dropdown menu on the product. You can select from cottons, silks, wool, silk and wool blends or you can even have KC Needlepoint pick their favorites! This is a great option because our expert staff will lovingly select a fun array of different fibers for your project. This may include sparkles or threads with different textures to really make your project shine! You will be sent a separate email invoice after the fact for your threads, once they have been selected!
What is the difference between your different thread choices for kitting?
Wools- Wools are hearty threads. They are very durable and can withstand a lot of wear. We recommend wools for belts and pillows that will receive a lot of wear. Threads we might select if you ask us to kit your project with wools include Vineyard Merino, Bella Lusso, Glisten or Alpaca.
Wool/Silk Blends- This is always a popular option! There are several wonderful threads that are made as wool/silk blends. Wool/Silk Blends have a little bit more shine to them than wools do and are easy to work with. If you select this option, your project may be kitted with Essentials or Silk & Ivory.
Silks- Silks are some of the most luxurious threads to stitch with, however they are one of the more expensive options. There are wonderful options for both 13 and 18 count canvas. If you choose to have your piece kitted with silks, we may select: Vineyard Silk, Pepper Pot Silk, Planet Earth Silk, Silk Lamé Braid or Splendor.
Cotton- Cotton is one of the most cost effective choices you can make for your project. If you ask for your canvas to be kitted in cotton, we will select DMC 3 or DMC 5 for you to stitch with.
KC Needlepoint Chooses Threads- If you allow for KC Needlepoint to choose your threads based on our best judgement, we will select our favorite fibers! This gives our staff the most freedom when kitting your canvas. We may select sparkly threads, velvets, wools, silks, overdyed fibers and more! If you have specific requests, add a note to your order when you check out and we will do our best to meet your requests!
The canvas I would like to order is labeled preorder on the website. What does that mean?
If the canvas you are looking at purchasing is labeled as "preorder" that canvas is not in stock. After we receive your order, we reach out to the designer and order it, if an order for that canvas has not already been placed. If the designer has that design in stock, they will send it to us immediately and we will ship it right out to you. If the canvas is not in stock with the designer, they will have to order it from their painters. The wait time for an item that is not in stock may be anywhere from one to six months.
If you're looking for a project and want to get started straight away, we recommend shopping our In stock Canvases section online. We have a huge selection of inventory that is in our store that we can ship to you quickly! And we consistently have new inventory arriving daily, so check the in stock section often.
If you have a question about your order, or would like an approximation of how long a canvas might take to get in stock, email us at kcneedlepoint@gmail.com.
We can't wait to help you with your next project!
